ABSTRACT: This research examined the effects of environmental toxins on early childhood development. The objectives were to: (1) identify common environmental toxins affecting young children, (2) assess the impact of these toxins on cognitive and physical development, and (3) evaluate the effectiveness of intervention programs in mitigating adverse effects. A survey design was employed to gather detailed information from healthcare professionals and parents about exposure levels and developmental outcomes. A sample size of 180 parents and healthcare professionals was selected using purposive sampling. The case study focused on urban areas in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, where industrial activities contribute to environmental pollution. Findings revealed that exposure to environmental toxins significantly hindered cognitive and physical development in children, leading to delayed milestones and learning difficulties. Intervention programs that included community education and stricter pollution controls were found to mitigate some adverse effects. It was recommended that public health policies prioritize reducing environmental toxins and that early childhood programs include education on minimizing exposure risks.
